Dieses Jahr nehmen wir nicht nur wie gewohnt mit unseren NAO-Robotern in der Standard Platform League (SPL) teil, sondern treten zusätzlich auch erstmals in der Humanoid KidsSize League an. Warum dieser Schritt?
Unsere NAOs begleiten uns seit vielen Jahren in der SPL und haben uns großartige Erfolge ermöglicht, darunter den Weltmeistertitel 2018 in Montréal. Doch die Technologie entwickelt sich rasant weiter, und der NAO, mittlerweile schon über 17 Jahre alt, stößt zunehmend an seine technischen Grenzen. Vor allem aktuelle KI-Verfahren (z.B. Reinforcement Learning in Isaac-Sim und anschließender Sim2Real-Transfer) erfordern leistungsstärkere Hardware: schnellere Aktuatoren, verbesserte Sensorik und mehr Rechenpower – Bereiche, in denen die NAOs leider nicht mehr ganz mithalten können.
Genau deshalb setzen wir uns dafür ein, den Booster K1-Roboter als neue Standardplattform im RoboCup zu etablieren. Da jedoch in diesem Jahr noch die NAOs in der SPL eingesetzt werden, wollen wir parallel in der Humanoid KidsSize League zeigen, was unsere neuen Booster K1 Roboter alles können. Damit machen wir den nächsten Schritt in Richtung Zukunft des Roboterfußballs!

Countdown RoboCup 2025 – Why are we competing in two leagues this year?
This year, we are not only participating as usual in the Standard Platform League (SPL) with our NAO robots, but also entering the Humanoid KidsSize League for the first time. Why this move?
Our NAOs have been with us for many years, enabling fantastic achievements, including our World Championship victory in Montréal in 2018. But technology evolves quickly, and the NAO robot, now over 17 years old, is reaching its technical limits. Modern AI methods (e.g., reinforcement learning using Isaac Sim and subsequent Sim2Real transfer) require more powerful hardware: faster actuators, better sensors, and greater computational power – areas where NAOs unfortunately struggle to keep up.
That's precisely why we aim to establish the Booster K1 robot as the new standard platform in RoboCup. Since the NAOs are still being used in the SPL this year, we decided to simultaneously compete in the Humanoid KidsSize League to showcase the impressive capabilities of our new Booster K1 robots. With this, we're taking the next step towards the future of robotic football!
